Full timer
People expect “a full time xyz” to be the definition of success. A full time author, a full time Substacker… a full time whatever your thing is.
That’s a perspective that has always bored the pants off me.
Something I wrote elsewhere a long time ago:
But more than the peeve of full time being the key to success, what success itself looks like depends on your needs, so having one definition is really useless.
I still believe this. I don’t want to be a full time author. I don’t want to be a full time editor. Combinations of flexible work are what has always worked best for me. What’s best for me is being able to centre my disabling chronic illnesses, and have money come in around those needs. Am I there yet? Ha. No. But that remains my goal and no amount of “full time xyz” rhetoric will change that my goals are set on my needs.
