Include that detail.
I beg you
If you ever feel a detail is too obscure or weird to include in a book… please include it.
The book I was reading last night has something I bet they discussed editing out. I read it and thought to myself:
HOW ARE YOU IN MY SKULL THIS IS LITERALLY HAPPENING TO ME RIGHT NOW.
I’m being vague on purpose here about specifics & as per my standard line (I don’t name books/shows I’m referring to in posts), I won’t tell you what book it is, but for the love of {insert chosen deity} include your obscure details.
You never know when you’ll help someone feel seen.
THAT is the power of creativity.

The power of creativity. Yep. Like that. I am re-visiting Elizabeth Gilbert's writing (some I like more than others) via Big Magic which came out in 2015. In it she mentions an idea, which she developed into a story line and was ready to write the novel set in Sth America, and then she stopped...shelved it, got caught up in life stuff and more...and some years later at an authors' event, met Ann Patchett who, over a cuppa shared what she was writing about now...same topic set in a different era but so many similarities! Liz Gilbert says "wow, when you let inspiration and an idea go because...of life etc...it will land somewhere else". It was such a cool story. And for me, are any of us actually original anything? Except maybe "our dna" and even then I have no idea.
