The two sides of creating.
I saw a post in a writing group where someone was posting “I can no longer write”.
The thing is, that’s ok. I don’t mean to imply writers block, or any form of creative block, is particularly fun, but I don’t see it as a problem.
I feel like we go through absorbing phases and creating phases.
If you can’t write at the moment, consider that you’re moving into an absorbing phase.
Consume media. Media you like, media you hate. You’ll learn from it all, and when you go back into a writing phase, you’ll have a richer sense to draw from.
I think this is where elitism in writing (perhaps other creative spheres, but I’ll stick to the one I know best) fails us. Being a mere consumer is looked down on. But it’s an important part of learning, and therefore an important part of the creative cycle.

“I feel like we go through absorbing phases and creating phases.” Oh my gosh, this puts so much in perspective for me. Thank you for sharing your insights 🙂
